February | Pastor Loewe's Message

2/2/2017

Message from The King's Crown
IN NOMINE JESU CHRISTI
Thy strong word did cleave the darkness: At Thy speaking it was done. For created light we thank Thee, While Thine ordered seasons run. Lo, On those who dwelt in darkness, Dark as night and deep as death, Broke the light of Thy salvation, Breathed Thine own life breathing breath.
All of February is within the shining season of Epiphany. In our Divine Services in Epiphany we focus on the light that shines in this dark old world full of disaster and death. That light is Jesus Christ, of course. He shines in our dark world with a message of light and life. He calls disciples to follow Him and to walk in His righteous ways and indeed provides all the righteousness needed from His own inexhaustible supply. Praise His holy Name!

During the Epiphany (which literally means "to shine") season our readings focus on Jesus demonstrating that He is indeed the Messiah and Savior. Within these readings we come to "The Sermon on the Mount" from Matthew's Gospel. Speaking directly to His called and believing disciples (that's us, too!) He takes up the subject of just how His disciples are to live in the world.

"You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, How shall its saltiness be restored?" Oft times we are rather poor disciples. We lose our saltiness, the savor of the Gospel. We act as though Christ and being Christians is merely a little part of our lives. God's Word, merely some good advice that we may take or not according to our own lights. When we do that folks notice, dear friend, Yes, the world of darkness notices our poor behavior and lack of kindness. Under control of Satan, this world is united in opposition to Jesus and His Gospel. Satan and the world don't want you to hear God's Word or your children and grandchildren either. They want CTK and the Gospel to fail. And they will do everything possible to get it done.

Friend, if you're feeling a little bit insipid and tasteless lately, there's a way that your salty Gospel nature is restored: Hear God's Word! Don't forego the Divine Service for other worldly things that have no lasting value. And bring your loved ones, too. You will be renewed by the Holy Spirit's Power to let your Epiphany light shine out brightly. We have two weekly opportunities to Hear the Word of Christ and receive the Body and Blood of Christ for forgiveness and strengthening of your faith: Saturday 5:30 p.m. "Catechism, Confession and Communion" focuses our attention on Luther's Small Catechism and the light of Christ. Sunday 9:30 a.m. CTK is blessed to follow the great Church Year and the festivals and season thereof.

Friend, Jesus tells you today:
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." God bless you. Pastor Loewe
