WELCOME! This week we observe Reformation Day. And a very special Reformation Day, too, for it is the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation. How very blessed we are as to have the great legacy of Martin Luther and the other reformers who struggled mightily to return the Church of Christ to His Gospel and His Holy Scriptures. We say Scripture Alone, Grace Alone, and Faith Alone. These three have a content. That content is Christ Jesus our Lord. His forgiveness, His life eternal now given to us, His Sacraments giving that life and salvation. Today we take up one of Martin Luther’s favorite psalms as our Reformation Day subject, Psalm 46. It’s not very long, only eleven verses. Yet, what power and glory to God in that mighty Word. Confidence: "God is our refuge and strength.. A very present help in trouble." Confession: "There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God. God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved." Trust: "Be still and know that I am God." Believe it! Happy Reformation Day! Soli Deo Gloria TAGS: Service Announcements
WELCOME! Today we continue with Prophet Isaiah speaking the Word of the Lord in beautiful poetry. The Lord speaks to Cyrus, a pagan king, of how He will give him victory and treasure and all good things. All for the sake of His own people of Israel. It is an amazing fact that God "works together all things for the good of them that love Him." He says this, "I am the Lord, and there is no other, besides me there is no God; I equip you, though you do not know me." How does God work out our salvation? Why does He do the things he does? We cannot know, nor should we seek to put God into a box of our own reason and feelings. Instead we trust His Word. He sends Christ Jesus our Lord to be the final arbiter of all salvation. For the sake of this Christ, His own Son, He forgives our sins and gives us restoration and relationship and an eternal home. He does what He does so "that people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is none besides me; I am the Lord." Praise His holy Name! TAGS: Service Announcements
