WELCOME! Today we continue our journey through the Old Testament texts appointed for the Pentecost Season. We find ourselves with Jeremiah and a time of desperation and defeat for Judah and Jerusalem. Not only so, but the prophet Jeremiah is being persecuted simply for telling the truth of God to unwilling and stubborn people. "Reading Jeremiah is like entering the cavernous darkness of another person’s frustration and despair. The Lord calls Jeremiah–the ‘iron’ prophet–to preach a hapless message of repentance to the stony hearts of sinful Judah." But, even though Jeremiah weeps and rages at the hard hearts of his people, still, his faith in God’s promises is not crushed or dimmed. It shines out in confidence today as Jeremiah, persecuted and disregarded just as is the Christian Church today, speaks the truth of God, "But the Lord is with me as a dread warrior; therefore my persecutors will stumble; they will not overcome me!"
