WELCOME! In the season of Lent, we are again on our way to Calvary. Today the journey to the cross takes us back to the people of Israel in the wilderness. They’re on their way to the Promised Land. The first generation of the slaves set free from Pharaoh aren’t here. They died off over the 40 years of the journey. Lack of trust in God prevented their entry into the Promised Land. Now their children and a handful of the faithful remained. They’re ready to go but a detour is necessary. It is lengthy and unpleasant and the people become "impatient". They murmur against God and Moses. They are tired of the "contemptible" food the Lord provides. The Lord sends "fiery serpents", the bite of which causes death. In short order they confess their sins and God has Moses make a bronze serpent. Anyone who looks to it are saved. This symbol represents Jesus Christ. The Lord Christ overcomes the ancient serpent bite of sin. Look to Jesus for forgiveness and eternal life!
