WELCOME! Today is the First Sunday "in" Lent. We say "in" because Lent is the 40 days, excepting Sundays between Ash Wednesday and Easter. Sunday is always a celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, in effect a rehearsal of that greatest of events; the event that justifies us before a righteous God. Yet, we do have some Lenten habits, even today. You won’t generally hear "Alleluia!" in Lent and the hymns we sing tend to focus on the great sacrifice of the cross of Christ. Today we have a truly grand consideration of "40 days" of Jesus fasting in the desert and being tempted by Satan. Jesus succeeds where the sons of Adam and daughters of Eve failed. He destroys the power of the Tempter by using God’s Holy Word. We do the same. When you are tempted, call upon your Father in heaven. He will, as promised, provide the strength you need to overcome and stand strong in your faith.
