We come again to Christmas even as we come to the end of 2017. We at CTK continue to celebrate the coming of our King and God, Jesus Christ. He was first recognized by the angels and the shepherds, but shortly after His birth He was recognized by Simeon and Anna. It is Simeon’s blessing to God that is directly quoted and used in our Divine Service III in the Nunc Dimittis. This is appropriately used in the Divine Service in a very similar fashion as Simeon intended. Where Simeon saw the salvation of the world wrapped up in the Christ Child, we see and receive the gift of God in Christ Jesus through Holy Communion. Simeon then responds to God’s goodness with rest in knowing that all God’s promises are fulfilled. We, too, can respond with that gratitude and rest because God works in Christ Jesus and shares with us in the Lord’s Supper. Through this gift we see God’s promises of Christ fulfilled in our time and presence. Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year! TAGS: Service Announcements
